Student Spotlight: Katie Liu

Katie Liu is a junior at Texas State studying marketing at the McCoy College of Business with a minor in economics. Originally from Austin, Texas, she was inspired to attend the university for its strong business program and quickly fell in love with the beautiful campus and welcoming community.

 Outside of the classroom, Katie is a member of the Diamond Sweethearts, an organization centered in sisterhood, school spirit, and philanthropy. She is a strong member who brings leadership and humor while also strengthening connections within the group! Katie’s involvement in supporting sports teams and attending events has deepened her love for Texas State. She hopes Diamond Sweethearts will continue to strengthen their sisterhood and expand their presence on campus for years to come. 

Her father, who built a foundation for their family from the ground up, immigrated to the United States from China to give his loved ones a new beginning and serves as a constant source of motivation.  She has gained inspiration from her sister, who she admires for her wisdom and guidance. With all of her role models and drive, Katie has earned her spot on the Dean’s List every single semester!

She also credits her high school teacher, Bill Blaine, as the instructor who sparked her inspiration to study economics.

Katie can be described by her friends as an anchor, with an outgoing personality and a level headed point of view who knows how to brighten any room. She always can see the bright side of anything that life throws at her, and continues to grace others with her contagious smile! Katie has always been an open book who shares good advice and leads others to be the best versions of themselves. 

Looking ahead, Katie dreams of becoming a social media manager, where she can apply her creativity and marketing skills. She also has goals of living abroad in Denmark or Switzerland!

As she nears graduation—possibly as early as December—Katie Liu is ready to take on whatever comes next, with a competitive drive, a big heart, and a spirit that shines through in everything she does.
